Sketchy Shoes Memories [not sketcher shoes]
I had to wear orthopedic shoes in junior high school--not the best time of a person's life in any case.
My parents purchased two pair: saddle shoes [yes, black and white] and tan. I considered them clunkers and they only added to my despair. I already had the usual poor self-image of someone that age.
I gave no thought to the cost of those shoes to my parents--only how I felt about them. So I decided to change the tan shoes to brown shoes using shoe polish.
This of course only made them look less appealingly splotchy.
Now I realize if I had made myself wear those shoes I would not have so much trouble with my feet at this age.
Instead ....

Sketchy Memories of a Grandparent

Looking at old photos, I recall when my Dad's Mom was extremely distressed to discover the bean pot [remember the old brown ceramic pots? I see them for sale on goodwill's website sometimes] she had carefully prepared had burned dry. But I don't remember what became of that pot or how we consoled her. I'm sure some of us laughed, before being reminded that laughter was not appropriate.

I was reprimanded on another occasion because I wanted to watch something other than the Lawrence Welk show, and made that known to her--also not to be done.
